Emlid Integrates Point One RTK Corrections Across Reach Receiver Lineup

Emlid has introduced a built-in RTK correction service for its Reach GNSS receivers, giving users direct access to Point One Navigation’s reference station network through the Emlid Flow app.

Called Emlid Corrections, the service is designed to remove one of the configuration steps traditionally required for centimeter-level GNSS work. Instead of setting up a local base station or entering credentials for an external NTRIP provider, users can select Emlid Corrections directly in Emlid Flow and receive network RTK corrections over an internet connection.

The service is available for both new and existing compatible Reach receivers. Emlid is also including the first year of corrections at no additional charge with supported devices.

Emlid Corrections Technical Details

Emlid Corrections uses Point One Navigation’s RTK infrastructure and a Virtual Reference Station, or VRS, architecture. Rather than relying exclusively on observations from one physical base station, network RTK uses data from multiple reference stations to generate a virtual station close to the rover’s current position.

Emlid specifies horizontal and vertical positioning accuracy of 1 to 2 cm within supported coverage areas. Point One says its physical reference infrastructure is generally deployed at approximately 30 to 40 km spacing, a density intended to maintain short effective baselines and support rapid RTK convergence.

The main technical characteristics include:

Point One supports standardized RTCM correction messaging and NTRIP delivery across its wider network infrastructure, while its reference stations are designed, manufactured, deployed and operated by the company.

Supported Emlid Reach Receivers

Emlid Corrections currently works with six Reach product families:

  • Reach RX
  • Reach RX2
  • Reach RS2 and RS2+
  • Reach RS3
  • Reach RS4
  • Reach RS4 Pro

All of these models are eligible for the complimentary first year of Emlid Corrections. The Reach M2 and older Reach RS+ are not included in the supported list.

Importantly, the addition of Emlid Corrections does not remove existing correction options. Reach users can continue using conventional NTRIP services, radio corrections or their own base and rover configurations where those workflows are more appropriate.

That distinction matters in areas with poor mobile coverage. Because Emlid Corrections is delivered over the internet, the connected smartphone must have an active data connection while the system is operating. A local RTK base remains a practical alternative for remote sites where cellular connectivity cannot be guaranteed.

RTK Setup Through Emlid Flow

Activation has been integrated into the same Emlid Flow environment already used to configure Reach receivers and perform field data collection.

The operator connects the smartphone to a compatible Reach receiver over Bluetooth, activates the license and selects Emlid Corrections as the correction input. Once connected to the network and operating under suitable GNSS conditions, the receiver can obtain an RTK FIX without manually configuring NTRIP credentials.

This integration is arguably more important than the correction network itself. Commercial RTK networks are already widely available in many surveying markets. Emlid’s significant move is turning the correction service into part of the receiver workflow instead of treating RTK access as a separate product that the customer must source and configure.

Emlid Corrections Coverage

At launch, Emlid lists service availability across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Coverage is dependent on Point One’s reference station footprint, meaning availability is not necessarily uniform across every part of those regions.

Point One operates thousands of reference stations globally and describes its network as a self-owned and professionally operated corrections infrastructure. Its platform supports both single-baseline RTK and Network RTK using VRS.

For professional users moving between cities, states or countries, that broader network model can eliminate the need to maintain separate subscriptions with several regional RTK providers.

Emlid Corrections Pricing

Every compatible Reach receiver now includes one year of Emlid Corrections at no additional charge. The free period begins when the license is activated in Emlid Flow rather than automatically beginning when the hardware is purchased.

After that period, Emlid currently offers two extension options:

  • 1-year extension: €629 excluding VAT
  • 3-year extension: €1,099 excluding VAT

The three-year package is listed against a regular three-year renewal value of €1,887, representing a claimed 46% saving. When the €1,099 extension is spread across the complimentary first year plus the following three paid years, the correction-service cost averages approximately €275 per year across the initial four-year period.

Each subscription remains attached to one receiver and cannot be transferred to another unit. Companies operating multiple Reach rovers therefore need a separate correction license for each receiver.

Why Built-In RTK Matters

From a technical market perspective, the most interesting part of Emlid Corrections is not another claim of centimeter accuracy. That has been achievable through commercial CORS and NTRIP networks for years.

The bigger development is vertical integration.

Emlid already controls the receiver, field application and much of the user’s surveying workflow. Adding corrections creates a more complete GNSS ecosystem in which the customer can buy the rover, activate corrections and begin RTK work without selecting and configuring another infrastructure provider.

That could be particularly effective for construction crews, GIS teams, contractors and companies deploying GNSS equipment to employees who are not dedicated surveyors. Reducing setup steps has real operational value when several receivers are moving between projects.

There is also an important limitation. A tightly integrated subscription is most attractive where Point One has strong coverage and mobile data is dependable. Professional surveyors working in remote areas will still have good reasons to retain independent base stations, radio links and third-party NTRIP options.

Emlid appears to recognize this by keeping those correction methods available rather than turning Reach into a closed ecosystem. That makes the new service an additional workflow rather than a replacement for traditional RTK configurations.
