XFIX Launches EX30 Portable Excavator GNSS Receiver With Network Free RTK and 1408 Channel Positioning

Chinese GNSS equipment manufacturer XFIX Technology is expanding deeper into the compact construction machine guidance market with the launch of its upgraded EX30 portable excavator grading system, a standalone GNSS receiver designed for excavation and leveling work in remote areas without cellular coverage.

The new EX30 system combines high precision GNSS positioning, inertial navigation, integrated radio communication, and portable machine guidance into a detachable excavator mounted unit aimed at contractors seeking lower cost alternatives to fully integrated OEM machine control platforms. According to the company, the EX30 paired with the EX30B base station can deliver RTK corrections across a coverage radius of up to 5 km entirely without mobile networks.

EX30 Targets Remote Excavation Projects

From a market perspective, the EX30 is clearly positioned toward contractors working in environments where network reliability remains a constant problem. Rural construction, drainage projects, mining operations, forestry roads, and infrastructure development often suffer from unstable LTE coverage, which creates operational headaches for cloud dependent machine control systems.

Instead of relying on NTRIP corrections delivered through cellular networks, the EX30 uses an integrated radio station architecture operating in the 863 to 870 MHz range with FSS modulation and air rates up to 625000 bps.

The manufacturer states the system integrates:

  • High precision GNSS positioning.
  • An inertial navigation module.
  • A built in radio communication module.
  • A high capacity lithium battery.
  • Portable intelligent grading guidance.

According to the technical documentation, the system supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, SBAS, and NavIC constellations through a 1408 channel GNSS engine.

RTK Accuracy and IMU Integration

The EX30 specifications suggest XFIX is targeting serious construction accuracy rather than basic entry level positioning.

The company lists RTK positioning performance at:

  • Horizontal: 8 mm + 1 ppm RMS.
  • Vertical: 15 mm + 1 ppm RMS.
  • Bucket tip guidance accuracy: under 3 cm.

The receiver also integrates an IMU module with pitch and roll accuracy rated at ≤0.1°.

Interestingly, XFIX specifically highlights anti jam performance improvements through newer RF baseband architecture and high precision algorithms designed for difficult operating environments. While the company does not provide detailed interference mitigation specifications, that positioning reflects growing industry awareness around GNSS signal instability on construction sites located near urban infrastructure, mining equipment, or industrial radio activity.

Detachable Magnetic Design Reduces Downtime

One of the more unique engineering elements of the EX30 is its split type detachable construction.

The main receiver can be removed for charging or storage while the mounting base remains fixed to the excavator stick. XFIX says the system does not require recalibration after reinstallation, which could significantly reduce downtime for operators moving equipment between shifts or machines.

The mounting system itself uses a triple magnet configuration designed to minimize vibration, slippage, and accidental detachment during excavation work.

Physically, the unit measures 275.5 × 221.6 × 195 mm and uses an aluminum alloy housing with IP68 environmental protection. The system is rated for operation from -25°C to +60°C and can reportedly survive 1.5 meter free falls.

Battery Life and Hardware Platform

The EX30 runs on a 9600 mAh lithium battery rated for more than 25 hours of operation. Charging time is listed at approximately 4.5 hours with support for QC 12V/2A and 5V/3A fast charging.

Internally, the device uses an ESP32 hardware platform combined with the FreeRTOS operating system. Connectivity includes Bluetooth BR+EDR+BLE support for integration with the system’s mobile application workflow.

Portable Machine Guidance Continues Expanding

The launch reflects a broader shift happening across the construction technology market where portable and retrofit machine guidance systems are becoming increasingly attractive for small and mid sized contractors.

Traditional 3D excavator control systems from major OEM ecosystems often require major hardware integration and significantly higher investment costs. Products like the EX30 instead focus on portability, simplified installation, and standalone RTK operation that can move between multiple machines.

For contractors seeking basic excavation guidance, slope control, trenching assistance, and grading support without committing to full factory machine control packages, this segment is becoming increasingly competitive.
