Schneider Geospatial Expands Northeast Presence with New England GeoSystems Acquisition

Schneider Geospatial has expanded its footprint in the U.S. government technology market by acquiring Connecticut-based New England GeoSystems (NEGEO), a company known for providing GIS software and consulting services to municipalities throughout the Northeast.

The acquisition strengthens Schneider’s growing portfolio of GIS-driven government solutions while bringing nearly two decades of municipal mapping expertise into the company. It also reflects the continuing consolidation of the GovTech sector, where software providers are building broader platforms instead of offering standalone applications.

MapExpress Becomes Part of Beacon

A key part of the acquisition is the integration of NEGEO’s MapExpress mapping solution into Schneider Geospatial’s Beacon platform.

Beacon is already used by more than 1,000 local government jurisdictions across 35 U.S. states, providing online access to parcel maps, property records, permitting, licensing, and asset management. By incorporating MapExpress, Schneider aims to deliver more advanced mapping capabilities while creating a more unified experience for municipal users.

Rather than maintaining multiple independent products, the company is clearly investing in a single cloud platform that connects mapping with day-to-day government operations.

Northeast Expansion

New England GeoSystems has spent almost 20 years helping municipalities build, maintain, and modernize GIS programs. Its services support planning departments, assessors, public works, infrastructure management, and citizen-facing mapping applications across the Northeast.

The entire NEGEO team, including Managing Member Brian Dooley, will join Schneider Geospatial, allowing the company to preserve long-standing customer relationships while expanding its regional expertise.

Why This Deal Matters

This acquisition is less about adding another software product and more about strengthening Schneider’s long-term position in the municipal technology market.

Local governments increasingly want integrated platforms instead of managing separate systems for property records, permitting, inspections, infrastructure, and GIS. Schneider is positioning Beacon as the central platform where all of those functions work together.

Acquiring a company with established municipal relationships and experienced GIS professionals gives Schneider an advantage that cannot be replicated simply by developing new software features.

Industry Perspective

From an industry perspective, this is a smart strategic acquisition rather than a headline-grabbing one. GIS has evolved from being a specialized mapping tool into critical infrastructure for local governments. As municipalities continue moving toward cloud-based operations, vendors that combine mapping, property management, permitting, and public access into a single ecosystem are likely to become the preferred technology partners.

By bringing New England GeoSystems into the organization instead of simply licensing its technology, Schneider is also acquiring decades of municipal knowledge and customer trust. That expertise could prove just as valuable as the software itself.
